Rising antibiotic resistance is one of the greatest health threats of our time and requires that every healthcare institution develop effective interventions that promote the judicious use of antimicrobials. Small, rural, and critical access hospitals are key players in this fight, yet often lack the time and resources to independently create robust antimicrobial stewardship programs.
The UW-TASP community is made up of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, infection preventionists, microbiologists and other allied healthcare professionals all with the common goal of improving patient care. This includes appropriate and thoughtful usage of antimicrobials as well optimizing management of infectious diseases. Faculty include University of Washington physicians, pharmacists, microbiologists, and nurses who are clinicians, researchers, and teachers. We share evidenced-based data to optimize diagnostics, treatment, patient care, and program management in healthcare environments. By combining the resources available in our urban academic setting with the expertise of rural health providers, antimicrobial stewardship program implementation has been accelerated throughout the region with far reaching benefits to our community.
